Can you really make money shopping? Yes indeed. Please note that I’m not pitching a low-risk, no-fail, get-rich formula or even promising to get rich. I suppose, in
that rare instance, someone will be divined by the entrepreneurial spirits and make millions, but I want to concentrate on simple steps that anyone can do to make
money shopping. And I hope you won’t be disappointed in just getting a lot of free items like shampoo, toothpaste, and condiments.
Venue: Ralphs grocery store.
Arsenal: Club card, coupons.
Step 1: Obtain a club card. Don’t worry-you don’t have to show identification or proof of address or residency. You don’t even have to be you; you can sign up as
Fred Flintstone, if you want, however if you want Ralphs mailings or to receive prizes from club card sweepstakes, you’ll need to supply correct information. By the
way, it’s FREE.
Step 2: Go to www.Upromise.com and sign up your Ralphs card. This is FREE. With the purchase of select items, you’ll earn money for college. Don’t have a kid?
You can designate a non-family member.
Step 3: Select a school or charity to earn money for with Ralphs Community Contributions program. Call 800-443-4438 for more information. Yes, it’s FREE.
Step 4: Get the Sunday Los Angeles Times newspaper and start collecting them coupons! The cool thing about this system is that you don’t have to cut coupons
until you need it. Take each week’s coupon booklets-there is usually one from Smart Source (S) and one from Vlassis (V), put it in a folder, and date the folder.
The date can be found on the spine of the booklet.
Step 5: Go to www.cutouthunger.org, a web site that has an online coupon organizer, detailing every coupon that comes out in the Sunday paper. Each week,
Stephanie Nelson, who appears frequently on Good Morning, America, compares store ads to the available coupons, telling you exactly where to find the coupons in
your files and how much you’ll end up paying. For two years, I volunteered finding unadvertised free items that LA shoppers could get. Also go to
makemoneyshopping.org/grocerydeals.html for a extreme deals and free things lists.
Step 6: Go to Ralphs. Ralphs doubles 1 like coupon at a time, up to a $1 double.
That’s it. Next week: Make Money Shopping Online.
